i know it can look good when done properly but it's such a limiting form of art (if you want to call it art), it pretty much all looks the same to me, your opinions?

i hope this answers your question.

  4. Anime is a great topic of Japanese/Asian art. It DOES differ between shows and, even better, mangas, or what you might call "werid." It's better than cartoons and American drawings, taking a portrait of a human and transfixing it to their view of the world. Sure, it may seem like big-footed kids drawn with no detail; but some are complete works of art, with color and shading. There are levels to it too. The first is highly realistic art, and the last is kiddie art. Here are some pictures: blogs.warwick.ac.uk/.../2006/05/02/anime... not so realistic, and more realistic: i252.photobucket.com/.../VampireHunterD.... If you say that all anime looks the same you are sadly mistaken. You obviously don't respect the real art behind the drawings and hours it took. So, please, make sure you are well educated before writing something like this again. And another thing, you can't tell me I'm completely wrong because wasn't it you that said we could share our opinions.

  5. Honestly, I do want to call it art thank you. It's a different form of art than you like, and it's not limiting at all. I draw anime, and in a manga I'm creating, I've drawn wolves, foxes, cats, trees, lollipops, halls, floors, everything you'd see in American-style cartooning.

And in the same respect of American-style cartooning having similarities between each other - round heads, small bodies, circular eyes, etc. - anime has similarities. However, it's usually easy to tell the difference between Arina Tanemura, Shiei, and Yukiru Sugisaki in the same respect that one can tell the difference between Butch Hartman and Danny Antonucci.

The reason, however, that people are... "obsessed" with anime, is the same reason for American style cartooning; it interests them. I think that the reason that Americans become fascinated with said subject is because it's different; foreign; etc. For some it's also an escape, an ironic sign of nonconformity.

  6. well lets be honest, all of the cartoon shows out today in the united states are pretty much garbage. there are no real good shows, (watch cartoon network for 5 minutes and you will understand) unlike what they used to have on tv. a lot of japanese manga and anime are a lot better than the crappy  shows on now so most people go to things like naruto, bleach or full metal alchemist.

the reason it all looks the same to you is because you have probobly seen only a few episodes of a few shows. where most anime focus a lot on character development that can not be seen in just one or two episodes
