Question:

Why are kids growing up so SLOW these days?

Well, my dad, and I had a conversation. He told me back when he was growing up, people had s*x at 13, and got married at 15, and were always on drugs.

These days, people save their virginity longer it seems like, and do less drugs. Plus you never hear of teenage marriages, people now get married at 26-28.

Is it because of technology? People aren't strong enough to live on their own?

  1. Only partly due to technology.  It just takes longer to assimilate all the knowledge along the way that kids have to these days.  Also, kids are more isolated from human contact because they spend so much time with TV and gadgets and stuff, so they don't experience the people part of life and that takes time to learn too.

  2. Uh, you're bringing a lot of assumptions to the table here. Your Dad may have known people that got married at 15. I know people that got married very young, but I also know people that got married quite old. My parents got married at (the youngest) 30. Think about how many billions of people live in the world. Your father's perspectives are a tiny sampling of what decisions people in society usually make, regarding s*x and marriage.

I'm 24 and have known many, many people that have used lots of drugs recreationally. I'm not sure where you're getting that this is the "sober generation". Did you completely miss the 90s? I mean, come on.

I'd say what you're seeing is people taking greater personal liberty in their decision as to when to have s*x, when to get married, and if and when they'll use substances. It's irresponsible to make a blanket statement and say today's generation is the abstinence generation, or today's generation is the drug generation, or today's generation is the kit car generation, the green generation, or the "I don't know how many zeroes are in the number 20,000" generation. Blanket statements are unwise and have no substance.

  3. Personally i think you got your concept backwords,lol...

First off, times have changed since your dad's time and people are alot more informed and opinionated and think more for themselves.

Back in your fathers day...everyone followed meaningless traditions and just followed what everyone else did.....in our day and age...people actualy question things and follow their own ideals(for better or worse).

So i dont think kids are growing up slower; i think the appropriate thing to say is;"has older traditions fallen out of society and is our youth turning a new cheek?".

Also,if you want your end statements answered.Technology has nothing to do with traditions and a persons ideals....and people live on there own?If you want a answer to just have one; then no that isnt it; and has very little to do with it to be honest;cheap example; i dont think kids CANT get married that early but the ideals have changed and youth woudlnt WANT to get married that early; hence why i said i beleive your got your concept backwards in your question:P

  4. Dude its the opposite kids are growing up faster, in case you didnt know thats not a good thing, not good at all ...

  5. we are living longer!

  6. personally i dont think having s*x at 13 is a wise choice, same with the drugs. wtf? people arent strong enough to live on their own? because they dont have s*x at 13? wow.
