The society now is more complicated than the past and most children are taught to protect themselves, avoid strangers, stay away from troubles..etc. Also, the environment that they're in, school are better equppied with resources and kids have their own stationarys sets with their names. Unlike olden days where kids in school had to share crayons, clay..and so forth.

Maybe it helps if the teacher gives it as an weekly assignment , "name 2 things that your friends had helped you"?

Because now-a-days they are all selfish and try and get everything for themselves. They don't care anymore.

when I was a kid, it was normal and typical to help others - today it's "ME ME ME!"

I think people grow distant because morals, standards, expectations, values, and discipline grew distant as well.

I think people were so resentful of their "overbearing" parents, and whatever else in their lives, they took it "easy" on their kids.

More and more freedoms are being added. And, so we have more things to take advantage of.

Now, as far as something like the mentally and physically challenged, I think we've come a long way. People used to look at them like they were cursed, and if they neared them, they'd be too.

I think we slack on our parenting skills too. We don't teach kids to share themselves as much as we teach them to share food and toys.

Plus, ridicule and peer pressure. No one is taught to REALLY believe in themselves. Its "believe in yourself how we see you" now. So, they get embarassed, feel uncool, and so on.

It is sad. Huh?
