  1. It's a wedge for people in power to retain it.  Nobody wants to be the person fighting against the children.

  2. Watch the news once in a while these days

  3. It depends on exactly what you're asking about.  When I was a kid, forever ago, we went all over the place without anyone else over the age of twelve and our parents had no idea where we were, and they weren't concerned.  As a parent today, I want to know where my children are every minute of the day and who they are with because of all the nutcases out there.  My kids hate it and think I'm "overprotective" of them.  However, when my kids go ride their bikes, they don't have helmets.  They don't wear kneepads when riding on their skateboards or scooters.  They climb trees and do kid stuff and sometimes they get hurt, just like I did when I was a kid.  If the issue is discipline - such as using time out or spanking - then that's a whole other world that includes federal governent, local and state laws and, although rapidly declining because of the first two, parental preference.  IMHO, we are raising a generation of wussies that will be ill-prepared for the "real world" that awaits them when they grow up.  Some of that is by choice, but some is forced on us by law.  All in all, I agree that our children are waaay over-protected, and it will be very interesting to see how they function in society when the time comes.

  4. Because the world isn't safe for us all the time.

  5. the world isnt like it used to be

  6. Cause there are a lot of sickos out there "these days". Parents want to protect their children, It's not a bad thing...

  7. Because of their parents. parents get scared because they have been hearing from the news a little girl or boy have been kidnapped or something

  8. Because there are a lot of bad people out there, doing bad things to kids. Kids now have access to more people over the internet, and more people have access to our kids. Also, kids are usually trusting, thinking oh, that will never happen to me, until it does.

  9. too many d**n kids
