There are sporting events on good Friday. No horse racing, but there are greyhound meetings, football and rugby, and people bet on these events.

The only law guaranteeing English workers get to take a bank holiday off work is that when Christmas Day falls on Sunday. Businesses are not compelled to close on bank holidays and workers do not have these days guaranteed in law, and they can count as part of the workers annual holidays.

Unfortunatly profit comes before anything else. I'd like to see all big stores closed on Bank holidays, and also on Sundays. Most of these stores don't give lue days for working a Bank holiday. And most people who have to work Sunday don't get any extra payment.

well it's not a religious institution, so why shouldn't it be, and there are race courses abroad that people can bet on.

Horse racing and dogs are only a minor source of bookmakers' revenue these days.There are dozens of gambling oppertunities(or should I say ways for punters to lose their money) in the betting shops.There are machines that offer fixed(and I mean FIXED) betting. especially the roulette machines.(If they're not FIXED I'll show by backside to the whatever).

Maybe for overseas bets - races in other countries etc. There is bound to be a loophole somewhere
