Why are leeches all over the bottom of some lakes and then can't be found in other lakes?

At the lake near my house you cannot step on the bottom without getting leeches all over feet. If you go to the lake about 50 miles away. There are no leeches. Why is this?

  1. Maybe that lake has fish that eat leeches.

    or maybe that lake is too acidic for leeches to live.
