  1. left is considered south in all sports. They are dangersous because the majority of people are right handed. a right handed boxer has a harder time defending a lefty because the righty is open to the lefties power.

in baseball its usually the opposite. righties will usually hit lefties better because the ball comes in on the batter allowing the to see it better..

having 2 brothers and a crazy sports loving dad..i learned all that at an early age

  2. They're called southpaws because that is what a left-handed pitcher is called in baseball, and it's come to be used to refer to all left-handed people...

And it's not because the 'face south'...

Ballparks are often designed so that batters are facing east, so that the afternoon or evening sun does not shine in their eyes... This means that left-handed pitchers are throwing with their south-side arm, as opposed to righties who use the arm on the north side of there body...

Most boxers, be they left or right-handed, train against a right-handed sparring partner... A right-handed person will have there left foot in front, and will lead with their left hand, and their right hand will be the rear...

There are 4 basic punches in boxing...

Jab - A quick, straight punch thrown with the lead hand from the guard position...

Cross - A powerful, straight punch thrown with the rear hand...

Hook - A semi-circular punch thrown with the lead hand (can also be thrown with the rear hand)...

Uppercut - A vertical, rising punch thrown with the rear hand...

If you are used to an opponent who always throws jabs and hooks with his left hand and crosses and uppercuts with his right, it is hard to adjust to someone who does it the other way around...

  3. lefty in base ball face south so that where south paw come from

Lefty are best or at least I will tell you as another lefty

  4. it's just not common and hard to train for. since most southpaws are trained by rightes it makes their style very unconventional

  5. It is widely accepted that the term originated in the United States, in the game of baseball. Ballparks are often designed so that batters are facing east, so that the afternoon or evening sun does not shine in their eyes. This means that left-handed pitchers are throwing with their south-side arm.

Most boxers, southpaw or otherwise, tend to train with sparring partners who adopt an orthodox stance which gives southpaws an advantage.
