The word "liberal" derives from the Latin liber ("free, not slave"). It is widely associated with the word "liberty" and the concept of freedom.

Liberalism refers to a broad array of related ideas and theories of government that consider individual liberty to be the most important political goal.

Including, extensive freedom of thought and speech, limitations on the power of governments, the rule of law, the free exchange of ideas, a market or mixed economy, and a transparent system of government.

Belief that all citizens have equal rights by law.

They believe that real freedom can only exist when citizens are healthy, educated, and free from dire poverty.

They generally favor the right to an education, the right to health care, and the right to a minimum wage. Some also favor laws against discrimination in housing and employment, laws against pollution of the environment, and the provision of welfare, including unemployment benefit and housing for the homeless. 1. they are mostly hated in america b/c conservatives usually disagree with things that have to do with everyday life such as g*y rights, abortion, and even health care. in the 1950's people who supported the civil rights movement were seen as liberals yet now it is widely accepted by everyone. Non-Liberals or conservatives want things to stay the same or change slowly but it usually takes something big to change views such as Hurricane Katrina being a sign of global warming, or the assanation of MLK J. to convince conservatives

  2. Because people hate and fear change, even on the minutest level.

  3. Because people want war, violence, provocation.

And we liberals believe in peace. We love people more than we love our country. We are more humanistic, they are more patriotic.

    That's why.

  4. Because they offer opposing views to the "right wing nut jobs".

  5. hello,we have all of that now so please go away and return conservative.you have served your purpose and are no loger needed!

  6. Depends on where you live. Look at countries like Iraq and Iran. The liberal parties and citizens are trying to stop Islamic extremists from obtaining executive power. We don't hate those liberals. In France the liberals were the ones who started a revolution that led to the creation of Democracy, we don't hate those liberals. In America, liberal cities don't hate liberals. But to more answer your question, liberals are hated because their ideas usually encourage change and sometimes radical change, which scares conservatives because it's outcome is unknown. This reflects why the poor are liberal, wanting change, change from their crime ridden cities, their inability to find work, their inability to rise above their situation, and the rich are conservative, wanting things to stay just as they are.

  7. Conservatives hate liberals because either:

    (1) They don't know what it is.  When you see posts from most conservatives, their view of what liberalism is is very different from the accurate description you've provided; or,

    (2) They actually disagree with the values of liberalism described in your question.  These folks are even scarier.

  8. I meant to many liberals that think that it is their right to have "free" healthcare and that the rich should pay for it all.

Too many liberals want this freedom and right at somebody's expense. They want to government to enforce it rather than rely on voluntary association.

Not all liberals believe in a limited government.  Those are classical liberals, not modern day liberals.  Modern day liberals love big government and the nanny state.

  9. Sorry to burst your bubble but the Liberalism you speak of doesn't exist in the democratic party of today, examples:  Free speech is limited, just ask Trent Lott who was made to step down for making a positive statement about a fellow senator who was 95 y/o, or you can ask Imus who was fired for making inapproiate statements while I may not agree with those statements, the left went ballistic.  With regard to education, look at the education system in this country, try to inject some competition and the left goes ballistic once again.  The democrats from this label because this type of governing does not work, it's not love it's total control of the citizenry.  There are just way too many examples of why liberalism doesn't work, you need to do your homework, once again, it's a matter of logic not feeling.

  10. Because most people don't understand what liberalism actually is. When you think about it there is no real liberal party in America. The Democrats are still actually right wing.

  11. Liberalism, assumes that we of opposing views are incompetent, archaic, hateful people.  Liberals like to speak of free thought but,the only thought they will hear or accept is their own, no other consideration allowed.  Liberals aren't concerned with the individual, they want collectives.  Liberals want indoctrination in schools to fit with their belief systems.  Liberals are always seeking to take what you have earned and distribute according to ones needs.  Liberals, have a complete disdain for the United States, and would be very satisfied to have the UN or Europe dictate to us how we should live and govern.  Liberals, don't know love, libs are some of the angriest, meanest people I have ever encountered.  Liberalism is a mental disorder!

  12. Because they hate America.

  13. Probably for similar reasons (in general) for which 'conservatives' are hated.

  14. they are almost always unrealistic.

look at barack obama for example... promising to give $4000 in credit to every person physically able and willing to go to college.

that's not going to happen. he just wants us to think it is so we'll vote for him.

america is about working hard and building yourself into whatever it is that you want to be. if you want to go to school, get another job, work hard, be persistent and take one for the team. it's no different for anyone else either. it's unrealistic to think that taxpayers are going to be able to help everyone get a degree.
