Question:

Why are lines always so long at the post offices?

Funny how the United States Postal Service is always crying uncle about how much revenue it is losing from competition with e-mail, and other couriers such as DHL, FedEx, etc., etc.,

Yet, every time I go into a post office, there's a line of people extending out the door. While this is obviously not a good thing for the folks standing in line (who may be in a hurry), I would think it's a pretty d**n good thing for the USPS because it means demand for their service remains strong.

Is the postal service's plight really as bad as they say it is?

  1. Let me tell you how the government works. They ALWAYS max out their budget in order to plead for more money the next year. That goes for police, education, and welfare.

  2. But what time to you usually get there???  I have experienced long lines  after 3PM up until closing, but  mid morning, there's hardly ever a line.

The USPO is required, by law  to turn in a profit. Their most profitable buysiness, 1st class mail, is declining, due to use of faxes , e mail and  money transfer via the computer..

The USPO is also required to law, to service all parts of the US. That includes many remote areas , such as the mountain states and Alaska.
