hello! a lot of pubs have suffered in surviving due to last years smoking ban and although may have revamped and started to focus on selling meals, they aren't getting the custom like they used to. alot of pubs in my area seem to be knocked down as the land they are on is worth more than the building and they re-develop the land for houses or shops, etc. i think panorama or a similar programe did a feature on this, try the bbc website for more info. jo

because of the price of alcohol rising they cant make a decent profit for it as for the knocking down i think its to do with councils trying to stop boarded buildings and then having the areas run by hoodies

The number of pubs in the UK has been decreasing for about 110 years.  The decline is less now than it has been in the past, even although the average size of each is increasing.

the smoking ban probably has a part in it, i'm not sure why they knock them down, probably to rebuild for housing
