  1. Different states have all kinds of different laws. All wages must meet the federal minimum wage, but some states have their own minimum wage that is higher.

Part of it is politics: eg, in a liberal state like California, people will be more likely to support higher minimum wages than in a conservative state.

Another aspect is the cost of living. For example, it is inexpensive to live in Texas, so the minimum wage might not need to be as high.

  2. Cost of living I'm guessing

  3. The answer is cost of living.  For example Gas costs over $4 per gallon in Stamford, CT yet $3.41 in NJ.  CT's COL is higher.

  4. Each state's economy is different and state's are able to set their own policies within their borders.

  5. The cost of living is different it depends on were you live!

  6. yes, I was totally shock when I discover it too. that each state regulate their own wages.

  7. You have the federal minimum wage, and states may have a higher minimum wage. I do believe some cities have it too.
