Why are mosses and lichens sometimes called "pioneer plants"?

  1. because they are the first types of vegetation to inhabit new areas


  2. Because they are the first of the organisms to get to a place and slowly they make an echosystem :) [ they drop acid, but since theyre microscopic it takes years and years just to get to a piece of grass and etc]
