Why are most houses built out of wood nowdays ?

Can someone explain why we build houses nowdays out of wood instead of brick or stone; while 100 years ago most were built out of brick or stone even though wood was available.

what made brick or stone easier to use than wood back 100 years ago and what has change to make the use of wood dominate.

Wood is easier to work with and transport.Now days its nothing for a guy with a chainsaw to fell 100 trees a day.Try that with an axe or cross cut saw.Also now forest are renewable while the fuel to make bricks really isn't

The reason people are building houses out of wood now a days, is due to the reason that when they die, they want their houses to die with them. They don't want their houses to be lasting forever, because humans don't live forever.

Also, another note is that wood is a lot cheaper than brick, and brick/stone can really toll up a bill.

You do have a good point, we need to save trees, and build houses out of brick, not wood. :)

the labor cost . it will triple the cost to build a home out of masonry .
