What are indian women so interested in cricket matches? I am not talking about Mandira Bedi's stupid rants or her flashy sarees. It was happening before that also and today also most women including myself are as much interested in cricket matches as their husbands. They watch the game itself (and not the pre-match shows) and even know a thing or two. This applies to many women but not all.

Does cricket have some sort of a global appeal that other games don't have?

  1. Dear archana,

Very good question. It surprises me too. I don't know if it such a good thing. The problems can get compounded if such a deeply interested Indian woman might marry (say for argument) a Pakistani man !

Rehman who originally hails from the province of Multan

EDIT: What I am implying, is that we all have to bear the tyranny of our better halves. It is commendable that most men (at least most of my friends) do so without any complaint!

EDIT: Thank you Unique, I will now try to obtain "Hatrick"

  2. indian women r interest in cricket only 4 cricketers

  3. I've been watching since I was 11!  My dad was always watching it so I started watching with him.

At first it was "Woww.. this game is interesting."  But after a while it was "Wow.. this game is interesting and [insert cricketer's name] is so cute!"

So I think the cricketers themselves have something to do with women liking the sport.  But I guess I'm a sporty person and I watch it for the thrill of the game as well.  Depends.  I know some girls who don't understand the C of Cricket and still pretend to like it only cause of a hot cricketer!!

    Pssshhhtt.

  4. In woman's "world", which pretty much revolves around her husband and his likes and dislikes, yes, cricket has a higher rating than other games.

Seeing so many guys addicted to cricket, has aroused women's curiosity towards the game. It gives them a common ground of discussion with the men. So,woman are interested in cricket

    .

"Hat-trick" was one such Hindi movie potraying a guy's addiction to the game..leading to a woman's interest in the game.

  5. It has nothing to do with global appeal.  From ancient times women have watched men in sports.  The athleticism of males fascinates females.  That is why men in sports have a female fan base.  It happens in every sport, well, at least the athletic ones.  Football, baseball, basketball in the U.S. have huge female fan base.  It is just a matter of opposites attract.

That said, Mandira Bedi is a hot-looking chick.  :)

  6. Cricket is the most popular game in India and if everyone is affected by it then women cannot escape from its virus. Besides it is fashionable to talk cricket in the social circle as well. And last but not the least- their spouses do nothing but watch cricket so they have to share their interest without much of a choice.
