  1. there is a group of thought that believes that CCD may be related to a pesticide that is used here and was band in Europe because it lead to Alzheimer's in humans.  It may be that the pesticide is building up in their system and causing them to leave on their normal flight paths then forget where the hive is only to fly around until they die.

  2. I step on the ones at my house.

  3. There was an article in Pennsylvania Agriculture, put out by Penn State. It took three pages to say, in essence, we have no idea but we're busy spending our grant money.

What we do know ... Let me rephrase that. What I think that we think we know is that stress plays a role. The travelling colonies (the ones moved by truck to pollinate crops) are most affected and the wild colonies seem to be faring the best. Varroa mites are not the cause but may be a factor. Cell phones were implicated but discounted. There were jokes about bees talking into their phones as they flew and smashing into trees. Insecticides may play a role. In other words, nobody is sure but everybody wants grant money to keep investigating.

  4. It has yet to be determined although a virus and pesticides have been implicated.

  5. I heard it was to do with a virus, but honestly I do not know the full reason. I think it's terrible. :(
