Question:

Why are most public restrooms in America so filthy and unsanitary?

I have been to some McDonalds restaurants where I was afraid to touch the faucets and the toilets were backed up. This is repeated over and over again across America.

When I traveled in Germany, the first thing i noticed was the cleanliness of the public restrooms. I realized then how filthy so many Americans are.

I know I will get some defensive answerers but please know that I am not talking about all Americans, just too many of us that are filthy. Too many of us that think we should not flush toilets and too many business owners that think they should only clean their public restrooms once per week.

I know many of you are going to feel me on this one.

  1. Just give me the d**n 10 points...I hate using public restrooms, but we all have to.

  2. yeah that happens in all places. Sometimes is because they clean it once a week like you said, or the ppl that uses it. because some ppl are too lazy to flush a toilet, try to leave evereything clean like they would like to see it when they go to the restrooms.

  3. I am sorry you have had such bad experiences.Where I live I have never come acrossed a filthy bathroom anywhere.Fast food places, restaurants, gas stations, shopping malls, stores etc. They are always clean and fresh.Come visit my clean town to experience visiting a clean, fresh bathroom.

  4. Actually I think it's vandalism.  Many of the restaurants in Europe have an attendant or have careful monitoring.  Plus you do pay for most of those restrooms as well.  A quarter or fifty cents to enter.  They use that money to keep up the restrooms.

I know where i live the public bathrooms have been vandalized over and over again.  Each year they spent close to $20,000 on one set of restrooms to repair the vandalism.  Due to privacy laws, everyone is afraid to have cameras in the bathrooms but I think our town would be better off if we invested that 20K in security and cameras.  Then the rest in lawyers suing the next person who destroys the place.

I've also noticed in Europe people are happier to have their jobs.  In America there is a sense of entitlement.  My friends bartend on weekends helping out friends who own the bars.  And they hear the employees talking about how the owner should be grateful they work here.  The owner should be grateful to have hired an employee instead of the employee being glad to have the job.  They don't clean the bathroom b/c they feel they shouldn't have to do that.

It isn't the owners.  They have rules that the employees clean but I've walked in on an employee freshing her makeup instead of cleaning and then walking out like she had scrubbed it at the end of the night.

  5. I think it depends on where you go.  Most fast food chain restaurants are usually dirty.  But if you go to the higher-end restaurants they are clean.  I wouldn't say it's an american thing.

  6. i know people in america are unhygenic as my "client" too
