Why are mother in laws horrible

Why do women have such a problem with mother in laws? I'm one of the unlucky many who have had to deal with a over controling mother in law. She was never really involved in my husbands life or his brothers but now that she knows we are having a baby she was always causing problems. We had to tell her she is not going to be involved in our family but why is this so common with wives and their mother in laws?

they think no girl is good enough for their son, and for some reason they feel like they are losing them. It's so silly because usually you want to get along well with his family, especially his mother. But then a few years later, they sometimes become mean to you, and give u c**p.
