I've had my Peppered Corydoras and Pleco for 2 years now, and about a year ago, i've noticed that my pleco and Corydoras will go to the surface and eat the flake food when i feed the other fish. I give them a few algae discs and some of the food gets caught at the bottom when they fall and they'll both eat. [They're like best buds!]. So my question is why they're doing this. I'm not worried that they doing this because it's the actually flake food and they are fish so they'll eat it but i'm just curious why.

thanks! =]

  1. You've had these fish for so long that they learned where the food comes from. Plecos can even learn to suck the sides of the glass out of the water. Maybe they prefer the flakes and by the time the other fish ignore the leftover flakes, they get caught in the filter or take forever to get to the ground. You have some very smart fish.

  2. corydoras only normally eat at the top for extra oxygen or when the water is deteriorating well that's what mine does my plec 15" 30Cm's eats at the top and the bottom

  3. They just like flake food! May I also mention that the cory is a schooling fish and are the happiest when kept in groups of 3 or more, better yet. 6! Just letting you know, also, i think it is normal, they like flake, so they go up to eat it before the other fish do.: )
