Why are my baby chicken's innards out?

They were just born yesterday.

Right below their a**s, the is a hole where the appears to be innards coming out. What is going on?

  1. Sometimes the umbilical cord which attaches the bird to the yolk becomes ripped or damaged during hatching. Sometimes it happens on its own, and sometimes it is because of handling or helping the bird while it is hatching. This can cause infectinon of the area, and also the the intestines can come out of where it was ripped. There isn't much you can do :(


  2. Sounds like a couple of them left the egg shell before they were able to absorb the whole yolk. Most time low humidity will do this. Were any of the chicks helped out of their egg? Sounds like it. Sometimes a baby will get rolled and come out a little early. Then it dries up and won't absorb into the abdomen. I have never had any of these babies live. Sounds like someone meddled with the babies as they hatched.
