Why are my beefsteak tomatoes deformed, and merging together?

  1. There are several reasons this could happen.

    If they are crowded thin them out.

    Clip the lowest branches from the main vine if not already.

    If the plants are not a dark green they may need iron.

    Too much water can do it but will also cause splitting on tops or rotting on bottom.

    Not enough water can do it but the tomatoes will be small and not many of them.

    If none of these are the problem try pruning the plant a little at a time each time you pick tomatoes.  Don't worry about clipping blooms as when you get them happy you should plenty.
