Question:

Why are my cats killing more small animals than normal?

Well everyone couple months I would find a dead bird my cats killed but in the past week or two I have found 2 humming birds and 2 rats. I have two cats, one just came home after about a month of being fed by another family if that could have anything to do with it. They both get food twice a day. My mom suggested maybe rats are just infesting the house, but the only two rats I found were the ones my cats killed and were outside and then that wouldn't explain the birds.

Why do you think they have been killing a lot recently?

  1. 1 feed them more and it will slow down, #2 they are bringing you presents, but if its getting out of control, give them extra food and they will stop

  2. Domestic cats don't tend to hunt for food but more for play so i wouldn't worry about the amount they get fed. Saying that though i do have one cat that doesn't hunt but will take the other cats findings ( normal mice) and eat them?!  But generally they just do it as fun. They apparently bring it back to you as a present. So really you should say thank you to them lol.

Just wait till they bring an alive one back and you end up chasing it round the house. They won't catch that one for you lol.

  3. i guess is good that your cats are active, killing rats and bird are normal behavior for cats if you want them to to stop then just keep them more indoors
