Question:

Why are my contacts clouding up?

I have worn contacts for years and never had this problem. Suddenly in the last few days my contacts have gotten cloudy. Immediately after I clean them or put new ones in, or put eye drops in they're fine and clear. But within minutes they begin to get more and more cloudy again until I can't see and I have to go and put more drops in. It's driving me crazy. Whats going on? and how can I fix it?

  1. i suggest giving your eyes a break...make sure not to sleep in your contacts and wear your glasses for a few days

  2. Sounds like you are either developing Dry Eye, you're developing an infection, or that you got a bad batch of lenses.

If it improves when you use drops, then it's simple - they're drying out too quickly either because of your own inability to produce as many tears, or the lenses are bad. You can get tested for Dry Eye at the eye doc.

Did you recently switch brands? Different brands have different conditioners/moisturizers.

It could also be that you have some bacteria starting to grow which is clouding your tears, in which case you need to take your contacts OUT and throw them away.

Lastly, it could just be a bad batch of lenses. I've seen that happen alot. Is it a new box/batch? If all else fails you can always exchange them for a new box and see if that does the trick. Good luck!

  3. Cloudy vision usually means lack of oxygen to the eyes.  Have you overworn them lately?  You may need to take them out for a day or two and let your eyes breathe.  Be careful because if you have worn them for too long, when you take them off you may have an eye abrasion which you won't necessarily feel until you keep them off because contacts can act as a "bandage" and when you remove them and the blinking process and the air gets on your eyes, That's when you will start to feel it and it can be very painful.
