Why are my cornstalks falling over?

i planted corn and 2 of the stalks have fallen over. the base of the stalks just broke. i opened one of the stalks and inside the center of the base i found a worm looking insect. what is this? how do i fix it?

  1. Sounds to me like you have a corn borer.  They are the larva of certain mouths.  Type Corn Borer in your search engine and you will get all the information you need to control the pest which has spread across most of the corn producing states.
