Why are my crayfish doing this!?!!?

I have 6 crayfish, they always try to get outa the tank. I came home from skewl today to find 5 of them outa the TANK! They were in my room all still alive!!! I put them back and later I was watching one escape. I coverd up the spot. But they still continuded to try to get out. Why? There's no water out there. So why are they doing this? They use the filter to climb out. Thier in a aquirm and they have plenty of food. they have carrots and live fish

  1. maybe your tank is too small for them......

i would request you to cover your tank

  2. Thats what crabs and crayfish do. They are escape artists and often end up outside the tank if it does not have a lid, sometimes even if there is a lid, they figure a way out.   You need to get some sort of cover or netting to prevent them from escaping.

  3. Possible Reason # 1:

Your tank isn't big enough. 1 crayfish should ideally have 7 to 10 gallons to themselves. So, your 6 should have a 50 gallon tank if they get bigger than 2 inches long as adults.

    Possible Reason #2:

There isn't enough hiding spots, and they're searching for one. Crayfish need lots of hiding spots during the daytime, because they come out at night. Make sure there's at least 1 cave or nook per crayfish.

    Possible Reason #3:

Something is wrong with their water and they're seeking better pastures. This is unlikely, as they're well adapted for most water, but the tank should be filtered and the nitrates should be kept under 30 ppm when tested. Water should be on the cool side - low to mid 70's.

  4. crabs do the same thing and they can live out of the water for some time it could be you have to many in the tank but since you didn't say what size it is I couldn't say for sure but 6 is a lot for even a 100 gallon tank when you conceder they can't really get away from each other
