Question:

Why are my dog's nails turning brown?

The base of my dog's nail beds were once clear, but not they are turning a dark brown. She is a 3 year old pit bull. I also have a second dog, who is her sister (liter mate) but her nails are fine. There has been no change in her behavior which is why I have not rushed her to the vet. Any ideas?

  1. I don't think it's a big deal at all. Some dogs have totally clear nails, some have a clearish brown, some are black, ect. They can also chane colors as they get older too. Unless they seem to hurt her or start looking infected or swollen I really just this it's changing color with age.

  2. Probably dirt, or a disease, get him to the vet for further testing

  3. all dogs claws go this colour as they get older

  4. maybe dirt? like over time maybe it clumped up. sorry, im not sure. if she doesnt seem sick I wouldnt take her to the vet, but when she goes for a check up I would bring it up to the vet.

  5. It can just change colour. my dog is four this year and her white nail just turned black. i wouldnt worry to much

By the way love the breed!
