Why are my eyelids swollen shut?

I woke up this morning with a splitting headache. I walked into the bathroom and looked into the mirror and was shocked to see my eyelids were so swollen I almost couldn't open my eye. In fact they are so swollen, it looks like I have two eyelids on each eye...it's very weird looking. What has caused this strange occurrence?

I am far away from home on a trip, so a doctor is out of the question. And no, I have not put anything unusual in my eyes!

I woke up once like that when I was about 13. I was in the sun a lot the day before and had a bad sunburn.  It went away fairly quickly and I never went to a Dr. I held a cold washcloth over them for a bit and that seemed to help.

Sounds like it might be an allergic reaction.  Have you used the hotel's soap? Shampoo?

sounds like the onset of Pink Eye - conjunvitus.

Ya it could be an allergic reaction. You need to go see a doctor even if it costs you. Ask a concierge for a recommendation, or go to the ER. It sounds serious. you can try taking an antihistamine(allergy controller), or try icing your eye.

pink eye sounds like a option. especialy if there is crusted or normal pus leaking out the corners.
