Why are my eyes brown?

i have brown eyes and ive been thinking lately about why i got the brown eyes when my mom has blue and dad has brown...i have 3 siblings and all of them got the blue eyes..how did i get brown?

Your dad's eyes are a recessive trait. Meaning, there is a less chance that they would be inherited as opposed to a dominant trait (blue). But you got them. You are most likely "homozygous recessive." If you don't know what that is, do some research. It's pretty interesting.

your genetic disposition is for the brown color.Also the light refraction should make your eyes seem green or hazel in certain conditions of lighting.Your siblings may appear greenish. There is a fine line between their color and yours.

my mom had green eyes and my dad brown.  All 3 of us girls (no boys in family) have brown eyes.  Brown is supposed to be dominate, but there's no quarantee's on genetics.  The blue is dominate in your family.  Brown eye's are mysterious, beautiful and you should be proud of them.  You are probably too young to remember the very popular song "My brown-eyed girl" I've used it as a ring tone.  Look it up.

The gene for brown eyes often are *stronger* than the genes for blue eyes. So if you have both a gene for blue eyes and brown eyes, there is a higher chance of you having brown eyes.

This is also the reason many parents who have brown eyes (but also contain a sudued gene for blue eyes) can give birth to a blue eyed baby, who just happened to get the blue eye gene from both parents. That is probably what happened with your siblings, so your dad probably has hidden genes for blue eyes.

You just happened to get blue eyes from your mom and brown eyes from your dad, and the brown eye genes was the visible one.
