Question:

Why are my feet stiff?

When i get up on my feet after sitting down for at least 15 minutes, they are stiff and it takes a minute or less for them to loosen up. I don't have a history of arthritis in my family. I did all the mandatory hikes in Marine boot camp and MCT and none after that. I run at a modest frequency. I deployed to Iraq 2 times with being forced to take a 5 minute one way trip to work and back with my flack and kevlar(25 extra lbs.) on the first deployment. I stupidly jumped a couple of times off my 7-ton truck from 5-6 feet in the air with full flack gear on. The second deployment i was not required to wear my flack nearly as much. I am 25 years young. Would any of this info be the cause of my problem besides jumping with my flack on?

  1. With your history I would see a doctor.  Repeated stepping on the feet can cause stress fractures/bone spurs in the feet, which can cause a lot of foot pain.   Other causes could be plantar fasciitis which again be caused by repeated stepping.

The doc can get some xrays to assess, most of these are treatable by casting, pain killers, and sometimes steroid injections into the foot.

  2. It could have something to do with the shoes you've been wearing.  You might also have some poor circulation in you feet causing the stiffness.
