Question:

Why are my geckos just now fighting?

I work at PetSmart and about a year ago I bought 2 leopard geckos as juvenilles, so they are more than a year old. All of the sudden, this past month or so, one has been attacking the other. Everyone I have talked to or asked they have said "They're probably 2 males", but no one says whether I should separate them or what to do. I have a 55 gallon tank and 2 separate hiding places plus a foam background thing that one of them always sits on top of. My dark one is really nice and calm and is easy to hold, the other one has always been really skiddish and I tried to hold it the other day and it bit me. I know the nice one is a male but I'm too scared the pick the other one back up and check if he's a male, but even if he is or isn't, what do I do. The mean one will lunge at the nice one and latch onto him and I have to try my best to get him off. I wouldn't think that just now, after a year, they would be fighting for territories. I don't know what to do?

  1. you either have two males or a horny male and uniterested female. Either way you need to seperate them, i had the same problem with my two leopard geckos a few months ago. The reason they just started fighting is because one or both has just reached sexual maturity and you know what that means.
