Why are my habanero peppers not hot?

I picked my habanero peppers when they were still green, would that be why they were not hot?

  1.   you probably picked them too early


  2. Yes. They have to have time to build intensitiy.

  3. yes, they are not fully ripened, when they are blood red thats when they are the hottest, then they are really really hot!

  4. Habanero's are still hot when green..What the problem is  that you are overwatering them..peppers do not form capsicum well if over watered..they do it under stress..let your plants dry out completely inbetween waterings..and the heat will increase..Heres a link verifying this..
