am i supposed to be able to do anything with these or write it off as a bad crop? if so, the crop has been bad for 6 years in a row.

i love pecans and would desperately love to be able to eat them fresh. somebody please help!!

  1. Pecans grow with a green soft shell around them.  I used to have a pecan tree, if I recall correctly, the green shell turns brown then kind of peels away from the hard brown shell inside.

  2. Pecans need a lot of water. Stress could be causing your trees to drop early. Another causes could be poor polination or insects that bore into the nut. Pecans usually drop in the fall and then need to be dried out. It couldn't hurt picking up the nuts and spreading them out in a dry area to see what you come up with.

  3. Most nuts have a husk that is green and turns brown or black after it falls from the tree.  I doubt very much that there is a thing wrong with your crop.  After the husk has dried peel it off to reveal the pecan inside.

  4. Here is a website that might shed some light on the subject.
