Why are my pomegranites small and splitting before they are ripe

  1. Check if the quality of the plant is ok, because some plants gives small fruits.If the quality the plant is ok , then it needs maniour which should be provided to it to keep the plant healthy & dont over water it.


  2. Two possible reasons why your pomegranites have small fruit. They may be a decorative variety which produce small fruit for the decorative value in which case whatever you do they are not going to be big.

    The second reason is that you are not giving them enough water and/or fertiliser. They need a good general fertiliser feed in spring and plenty of regular watering during early summer to help swell the fruit.

    The most common reason the fruits split is that you have watered them irregularly or you are watering them when they are starting to harden up ready for ripening (are you in the med region?) The first year I was in Spain I watered the pomegranites - as advised - but nobody told me to stop at the end of July because the watering splits the hardened skins.

    Eat them up quick before the flies get in there!
