Why are my siamese kittens (almost 1 year) distant?

Ok, i've read Siamese are nice, then I've read they are mean. I guess it just depends on the cat, huh? Well, we rescued two sisters when they were about 12 weeks. They will be 1 in October. They seemed kind of friendly when they were younger. Would lay on us periodically, etc. Now it seems all they want is their food and to be left alone. They FREAK if you pick them up. They really don't like to be petted. They will come up to us very rarely, but sometimes when they feel like it. They will be laying on the ground, I will go lay next to them and they will walk away. So sad cause I am an animal lover and I can't stand they won't let me love them. I know cats are cats, but, can't even pet them? Any tips or suggestions? Wondering if the fact that we got two sisters was a problem? They play a bit with each other, but don't seem really dependent on each other?

  1. It's just the typical behavior of that type of cat. Each breed has different personality traits, and the Siamese are known to be more independent and less social, although my mother's Siamese mix-bred cats are some of the sweetest ever.

  2. I have an older male and a two year old female Siamese and most the time they only want to be loving to me when they want to eat and that's pretty much about it. Now when it comes to bedtime which is usually about 10 pm they both will come lay down on the bed with me and sleep. One is a feral cat that was born outside and the other is a pure bred with papers and everything so it really doesn't seem to make any difference on how they started off in life either? The male is friendly with the oldest stray female in the house and she isn't a Siamese and the female gets along with a tiger striped female but the male and female Siamese pretty much ignore each other just like yours do. I'm sure that the characteristics are somewhat different from cat to cat but the majority of them seem to act like this.

  3. Try treats... give treats and use a toy to let them chase.

They may just feel they are OLD cats and shouldn't play.

All cats are diffent... I have 3   ... 7 - 19 yrs and the youngest plays with her toys but the older ones don't play much.

Do you try to temp them with a string / or a fishing pole w/ feathers for bait... or anything.

My cat would also get up and leave if you came and layed down besides them..

You might consider getting another kitten to stir up the mix.

    good luck >^..^<

  4. That is the  nature of siamese cats.

In my exp, male domestic short-haired cats are the most laid-back and loving.
