Question:

Why are my tears not salty?!!?

I got my feelings hurt recently and I started crying. Probably the first time I've cried in months. I noticed, not that I was trying to taste my tears, that my tears were not a bit salty! I'm sure this is not healthy and what should I do about it?

  1. Did you drink a lot of water that day?

Sodium and water need to be in a balance in our body. If you ingest too much salt, the body will hang on to more water to level it out. But if you drink more water, the body doesn't have "extra" salt to hang on to, so it gets rid of more water to keep things even.

In other words, your tears were just less salty because you were well hydrated. Not something I'd worry about.
