I had five tetras, a DWARFgourami and one other fish( i forgot what its called), and now i only have 2 tetras! used to think they were getting sucked into the filter until i saw my dwarf gourami pecking at them and my other fish, so i took it out for now and put it in its own little container( i used the same water from the tank) and fed it. so, what should i do? give it back to the pet store? or are my tetas just too small and the filter is getting them?? please help!

  1. May be one eat to other...

  2. I had this exact same issue with my Silver mollie and Neon tetras. The pet store said they would live peacefully because they are both "community fish" however, a day into having her, i saw my neons get pecked by the mollie. I separated her and returned her. One thing I learned tho, if a fish is bigger than another, he'll try and eat him. Im not sure about the size of the dwarf gourami, but if its close to twice the size of the tetra, that could be a problem. Also, about the filter, your aquarium should have come with a filter guard to prevent anything from going up there. If it didnt, go back to the store and see if you can get a replacement, or place a netting over the tube opening and secure it there. That should prevent anything from going into the filter system. good luck.

  3. Your tetras might be dying over night, and the other fish are eating them once they're dead.

Dwarf gourami dont eat tetras while they're alive, they're just too big to fit in its mouth.

The dwarf might be aggressive towards them, and stressing them out and giving them a heart attack.. But they are usually peaceful, so I dont know whats going on there.. Also, fish tend to pick on the sick fish.. So your tetras might be sick.

  4. maybe your dwarf gourami is hungry and decides to feed on your tetras, feed it and try putting it back in your tank and see if he continues to bite your tetras. If so, it would be a good idea taking it back to the pet store.
