Why are my two female cats suddenly fighting?

I adopted two cats about 4 months ago, one was a 2 month old female and the other was about a year old and also female. The older cat has acted like a mother to the younger one and the two got along famously. Until recently they have been fighting nd certainly not play fighting. We feel that maybe the younger one is coming into heat. Could that be the reason for the fighting? Is this usual and once we fix the kitten will they get along again?

  1. the older one wants to establish itself as the alpha female so that the younger one knows not to cross it, its like humans one cats has its space and the other one has its and the older one doesn't want the younger one crossing the boundries once its fixed the younger one will be more submissive and theyll be fine good luck

  2. If the older cat senses the younger one coming into maturity, the fighting is natural to establish dominance - it should at least calm down once the younger one is fixed
