Question:

Why are my venus fly trap traps turning inside out and not snapping shut anymore?

we have repotted the plant and water it using rain water, so not sure what we are doing wrong

  1. How old are the traps?  Traps typically are on the plant for only a couple of months then they start turning yellow, curl up, turn brown and die off.  However, A healthy plant will continue to make new traps until dormancy in the fall.

    It sounds like you are using good water.  Just be sure to give the plant plenty of sunlight (at least 4 hours of direct sunlight a day) and make sure it is potted in nutrient poor soil (peat moss works great).


  2. Well, they only need to eat a couple of house flies or little slugs a month. Also, if the insect (never feed hamburger!) is not alive you will have to move it around a bit to fool the trap into thinking it is alive.
