Why are my videos playing in half-speed when I convert it to a different format?

I'm using a Canon Vixia HF100 with a 8GB SD card. When I save a video clip to my computer, it plays fine, BUT it's in '.m2ts' format. In order to edit this video, I have to convert it. But when I convert it, the picture is played in half-speed, while the audio remains the same. I could edit it so that the audio and video are synchronized, but it would take way too much time. What should I do?

By the way, both my computer and camera meets the requirements that are written on the box.
