  1. The person who told you to run the washer on hot while empty has the right answer. The only thing I would add is to put about 2-3 squirts of dishsoap (preferrably Dawn) into the empty load, it will help to disolve any grease in the washer. This happened to me when I was letting a friend use my washer and dryer for a few weeks while he was waiting on his to be delivered, he was washing his jumpsuit which was full of motor oil (he's a mechanic), these types of clothes should be soaked in dishsoap in hot water before washing so that you don't get it in the washer.

  2. They are probably picking it up in the washer.  I had the same thing happening and I got a new washer and dryer and I don't have it any more.

  3. Try hand washing in hot water...

  4. Could be from your dryer sheets if you use them. Try liquid softner.

  5. Your dryer does this. Get it fixed. Dryers suck.

  6. Run the washer through one full cycle with hot water and no clothes to be sure it is clean.

Try washing the shirts again as usual, but instead of fabric softener add 1/2 cup of white vinegar to the final rinse.  You will not smell it and it will help remove any residue left from previous washes.

    Hope this helps!
