Why are nearly all talk radio shows conservative?

As an avid talk radio listener, I have always known this to be true... but I've never really wondered why until today? Why does it seem that liberal talk shows always seem to fail? This is just something that really has captured my curiosity!

  1. I find that fascinating myself!

Half of the country leans to the left.  Half leans to the right.

So why is it that Air America was the only liberal talk radio show yet it failed!?  It seems like they would appeal the liberals & moderates.

Could it be that there is a different mindset between liberals & conservatives?  That conservatives want to discuss things & liberals don't?

    I don;t know.

  2. One possible explanation is that you're too liberal or you listen to the wrong talk shows.

  3. because they are more inflammatory and shocking than libs---and so they get more listeners and better ratings

  4. Most talk radio is sponsored , generally those sponsors are very Conservative , because of the format being rendered , I myself prefer talk radio Rather than constant music , I don't watch the television often , you keep up to speed with national and global affairs with Talk radio.

  5. Because the liberals ones failed to make it profitable (or even supportable).

"Bring back the fairness doctrine, we can't compete"

  6. I have observed the same thing.  The liberal talk shows contain a lot of whining and complaining.  The hosts are extremely emotional, so a logical discussion on any topic is very difficult for these hosts to handle. These shows have very little humor as well.  Other than this, I've always wondered the same thing myself.

  7. Because liberals have moved on to take over TV that has a much bigger audience and makes more money. You might want to check it out sometime.

  8. Because old people only have radios and not computers.  They aren't open minded enough to even think about using a computer, much less open their mind when it comes to politics.

  9. I think it is because most conservatives care about real issues from day to day. In my experience liberals do not keep up with current events and how they affect us all on a day to day basis. Liberals are reactionary people. They just don't give a flip about things until some liberal leader makes a big hooptidoo about something like Bush's approval rating, or high gas prices. Liberals just don't care until a problem affects them in a major way, then they are just sheep. They do not think about realities, nor do they want to, which is why their talk shows go belly up. Liberals are like parrots. Once one of their leaders says something they can do little but repeat it. Liberals have very little ability for independent thought, they just go with what is popular, which is the trend of the American people in general. This aforementioned trend is the reason this country is going to h**l in a hand basket. No one cares any more. We are all so dependent on the people we elect and we have no will of our own to try to change things any more. Just an observation. I just get the impression that no one cares anymore because as long as things are easy, who cares. When things get hard again there will be some big changes, or at least I hope so.

  10. It makes for good comedy.

  11. Products fail when they are not marketable..that is if there is a market for them they will stay on the air.  Could it be that there are not enough people that care to hear liberal talk shows?  DeGeneres' show or Oprah's  have a following but I don't think that is what you are talking about...not true "talk" shows and they are on TV media.  I myself am in the car going from job to job during the day and I appreciate the local news talk radio in my town and it is conservative.  I certainly could not listen to liberal talk all day long at all.

  12. Well,

If I thought your observation was accurate I'd probably

say that it's because people love winners. Who wants to

sit and listen to someone who is almost always wrong and

in ways which are  easily detectable by a bright 5yr-old?

Unfortunately, many talk shows   and other types of shows

are not conservative.  Many are "liberal"--as opposed to

truly liberal. I'd love to hear some actual liberal talk radio

but one never does hear it. Maybe that's why  there isn't even

more "liberal" talk--because it's not genuinely liberal when you

hear it--it's some species of fascism  dressed up  as liberalism.

A lot of what's taken to be conservative talk is really more in

the nature of anti-pseudo-liberal   talk. It' s not really the

    same thing.

So, is what you're looking for  more pseudo-liberal fascist talk, or

    true liberal talk?

  13. Expand your inquiry and you will find that MOST media is conservative OWNED.

This phenomena occurred over time, beginning after the protests in the '60's.

Republicans noted the influence of the press and went about acquiring as many outlets as possible.

When GWB ran for president it became apparent that they had achieved what they set out too.

Despite being conservative-owned, most Americans believe the lies the GOP spews calling the media 'liberal'.

I believe GWB and Co. snicker each time a lowly peon repeats that ridiculous phrase.

  14. It's a phenomenon of the American FREE MARKET.  No listeners = no advertising dollars = station goes off the air.   Exactly the same way newspapers sell advertising (based on circulation numbers) and TV shows get canceled due to lack of viewers.

NO enterprise, regardless of political leaning, is going to kill a golden goose that is laying them golden eggs just because they don't personally subscribe to, or endorse, the program's content.

Good ratings = money, pure and simple.

Remember TV programs were invented simply to keep viewers watching the TV so they'd see the advertisments.  TV was invented as a sales tool - a new venue for advertising.
