Why are neo-cons supportive of money for vouchers for schools, yet hate the idea of money for health care?

They both use tax dollars and isn't one's health even more important than a private school education? What's wrong with vouchers for health care?

  1. You dont understand the flim flammery. The school vouchers will be doled out for awhile, as the GOP auctions off the assets which the public schools represent. Property. Buildings. Real estate. When the money runs out from the sales of these properties, so will the vouchers.

  2. They want children indoctrinated in religon, but they want minorities and the poor to die.

  3. If we already had to go to government hospitals, we'd be all about vouchers for private hospitals

  4. I read today that the government had failed to mail out many Americans their stimulus checks, while mistakenly sending some two checks. I don't think an organization that makes those kinds of mistakes so frequently is capable of competently handling education or health care.

  5. Vouchers are a joke. No voucher program that the neo-cons would devise for health care would cover the costs.

  6. They tend to like choices and efficiency.  Vouchers increase both; government- controlled health care decrease both.

  7. Because vouchers for schools involve choice of school (public, private, parochial, secular, etc.), while health care as most people understand it would involve government control.  The idea of vouchers for health care is a good one, however, there are neolibs who oppose vouchers for health care for the same reasons as they oppose vouchers for schools.  They do not want to give people the right to exercise their right of free choice.

  8. Where does it stop?

When healthcare has become a "right" and all tax payers are forced to pay for the medical problems of total strangers 2000 miles away, what will be the next thing that becomes a "right"?

Shouldn't we all be forced to buy automobiles for everyone?  And gasoline too?

And Houses too? (well, actually millions of ghettodwellers do actually get free housing, but it's not universal yet).

The public school system is a perfect example of what governments do to anything they get their hands on.  They destroy it, even though they spend more and more and more on it.

Half of our kids can't read or write or do math.

When the government takes over hospitals, half of our people will die waiting for a basic common medical procedure.

I hope you are the first one to die waiting for a friggin appendectemy operation.

  9. What gave you the opinion that Republicans do not want to spend money on health care ?

We currently spend 627 billion each year on just medicare and medicaid alone.

Spending on medicare has been increased 84% since 2001.

Spending for medicaid has increased 47% since 2001.

Thats not counting Federal spending for child health care.

    .........................................

There is a large difference between saying Republicans do not want to spend money on health care.

And Republicans not wanting to trash the existing system,

Make the Government be in charge of health care.

And have the huge tax increase necessary to pay for a single payer syatem, that the Democrats seem to want.

Your looking a 1.5 trillion a year, for nationalized health care.

Thats when the entire 2007 federal budget was 2.7 trillion.
