I am sick and tried of Bush and Republicans saying the democrats will spend the budget on needless programs.

Are the American people hyprocrites on the Miltary and local government spending in their own cities or towns?

  1. go read the budget again, that is NOT all military. get your sh*t straight.

  2. The Democrats will spend money on needless programs, just like Republicans do.

The federal government can only do what it is authorized to do by the Constitution, and the military is one.

The military budget (along with the "War on Terror" and other national security programs is $717 billion) is ridiculous, but Democrats like to bomb other countries too.

  3. On evidence, that much money may not be enough.  It is clear that the Iraqi operation has taxed US ground forces to the limit, and if action becomes necessary in some other country, there aren't resources to use.

  4. This is pure fear-based reactionary leadership. The Bush administration has convinced a great number of people that the greatest threats to their way of life are illegal immigrants, terrorists, and taxes. I really wonder how many people have actually had their lives significantly affected by any of these things.

  5. We have the most bloated militarty budget since the Romans.  Worse, it's a military designed to refight WW2.  Worse than that it's all done with borrowed money.  We need a total reorganization of our priorities.  Several things need to be done.  The first is withdraw from the two wars we're currently involved in.  The best case in Iraq and Afghanistan is that the violence there will move to a lower state of equilibrium, but not near low enough to ever justify saying that we won.  The next thing is to realize that the US is an air and sea power...it's not a land power.  We certainly could have a powerful response via our marines and other quick response troops, but we simply don't have the manpower for a long sustained land war.  We need to get out of the middle east and stop importing oil from there.  We need to deal with consumption by raising the CAFE standards..not the tiny bit that's been done recently, but by a large amount. That alone would leave us free of the politics of the middle east.  If 'attacked' we could destroy any enemy, but we can't occupy their real estate.  On the subject of 'needless programs', I'd like a list of these programs...something the right wing talk show bozos never give out to their ditto-head listeners.

  6. Most of us question the military budget and if there were real necessity for these wars and our own country was actually being attacked then maybe the $550 billion would be necessary.  But considering we are fighting a war that we have no business fighting and considering that initial amount spent was not great enough to do the job right, the whole thing is a big waste of money. As far as I am concerned the only threat to ourselves is the fact that Bush has a brother that has not yet run for office.  God help the U.S. if Jeb Bush is ever elected president, another Republican would be bad enough, but another Bush would be the end of us...

  7. Probably because we recognize the fact that the 9/11 attacks cost us more money than the Iraq war.

BTW - it was liberal budget-cutting that resulted in fighter interceptors being able to intercept those airliners on 9/11.  (Part of your 'peace dividend' from the 1990s was 9/11.)
