Why are nutrients called organic compounds?

if they come from something living.

eg in science you say there are acids and organic acids eg organic acids are those like citric acid which comes from citris fruit.......you can also have organic carbon which comes from something living as opposed to coming from carbon dioxide ( in plants for example)
