  1. Observations allow us to determine where a child is at with his developmental skills, if he is at an appropriate age/stage level of development. They allow us to see things we might normally miss such as any areas where the child might require further help. They also help teachers prepare the programs as they can incorporate activities to help children with certain areas of development

  2. because you can't ask a pre-schooler.

  3. Objective long term observations might be single best thing you could do for pre- school child total development. It helps identify strenghts and weakness, which when built upon and aided helps  one to self-actualization. Sorry all citations that helped develop stated belief have long disappeared.

  4. observation example checklist ,long term/short terms, sociolgram, programing ,observation are important because it helps the teacher help the student to understand what stage they are at ,if they are age stage appropriate

  5. NVQ 3 Childcare and Education book is handy-you can get it from waterstones.

Or ask for informaiton off your local LEA, they may have someone you can speak to who can give you information to use.

I believe observatiosn are important as you may see patterns or schemas that can help in palnning next steps and activities geared towards the childs individuality...

-you can assess whether a child is developing and if there are any concerns.

-use them as evidence at meetings, talking to parents, applying for SEN statements.

-see whether the room layout, activities, staffing etc is adequate.

-you can see if a child is avhieveing easily and needs to be more stimualted.

etc the list could go on!

  6. I agree with Mister> Great answer. I was going to say roughly the same thing. It is the key. You need to observe to see their problem areas, as well as, strengths and don't gorget safety.
