Why are oils liquids and fats solids? Compare and Contrast saturated and saturated fats!?

  1. Oils are liquids because they have more unsaturations than do solid fats.  These unsaturations cause the tail of the molecule to bend, which means that the molecules have a more difficult time fitting together.  Saturated fats on the other hand do not contain these bends and have no trouble fitting together, therefore, they are solids.
