  1. Baby boomer generation, people born between 1946 and 1964 are a lot in America!

  2. I'm will guess that younger people are not listening to radio as much anymore.  They prefer ipods although I'm not sure how one finds out about new music to download into an ipod without the radio.  Plus the music on oldies stations appeal to all ages.

  3. Radio stations are like any other business...out to make money. They make their $$$ from the commercials they run.

Advertisers for the most part choose stations who target listeners who have $$$ to spend. Top 40 stations mainly appeal to the young who have no or very little $$ to spend in the market, so if older people with cash listen to older music, what do you think the station is gonna play?

  4. Because it brings back memories to the young at heart.

  5. Coming from an Ex record promotor the oldies and light formats do well because of all the businesses that tune in during office hours.

  6. cause oldies songs RULE               bg's    bon jovi...

  7. because there are more old people than young

  8. Ultra Ma is right. Plus oldies music is just good. Not saying none of todays music is any good but its way too much bland sounds like boring sitcom theme music, hate music, and sounds like theyre puking on the microphone or what I refer to as "Vomit Rock" music.

  9. They are not.. Country music and Adult Contemporary  If I remember are the most listened to formats in the US

True oldies stations have disappeared from radio as they are outside of where most station owners try and concentrate advertising to. (which lately is ages 25-54)

Most stations calling themselves "oldies" are more of a oldies/classic hits formats which play mostly mid 1960s-early 1980s music (However many are using sat fed services running late 50s- mid 70s aimed at those a little older than 25-54 as the Baby Boomers are still burning up disposable funds when most used to start saving at 55) which appeal to those in their late 40s and 50s who usually have no kids in the house and are spending their extra money on stuff they couldn't have in their youth (such as motorcycles)
