Why are only boys are horse jockeys?

i was watching the derby and all of the jockies were boys, my question is why?

While most jockeys are male, there are plenty of female jockeys.  Only the top jockeys generally ride in big races like the Kentucky Derby.  But, Julie Krone was the the first female jockey to win a Triple Crown race when she captured the Belmont Stakes aboard Colonial Affair. In 2000 she became the first female jockey inducted into the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame.  See cite below for more information about her.  The second web site contains interviews, pics and videos of various other female jockeys.  It may be harder for women to make it as jockeys because racing is still somewhat of an old "boy's club."  But, there are some very successful female jockeys like Krone.

There are lots of female jockeys that race on tracks around the world. Just none were assigned to that particular race.
