Why are open air events like wimbledon held in summer?

Surely even a child can tell that this is Britain's wettest time of year. There has been so much rain this August that 2 cities have been waterlogged and hundreds made homeless (last year it was thousands). Almost every event is cancelled or even halted several times during its run, such as this year's Wimbledon men's Final.

And soon we will have the Olympics. Imagine the chaos and mayhem that the weather will cause if they hold it in August.

A much better time would be in May, when it is occasionally possible to get two, or even three, mild days. Children's school holidays could be altered accordingly.

  1. Have you not noticed that the weather is usually OK until school holidays and then it pours down.  It will be lovely in September when the little brats are back at school so it won't be worth changing school holiday times.  I think they should change it to July or September as that seems to be when we have better weather.

  2. Theres many a grim dark day in May. Extremely wet summers seem to be a relatively recent phenomena. At least the rain is warmer with longer daylight.
