Why are oranges orange??? and....?

me and my bff where bord so we made this but y are oranges orange and why doesn't anything rhyme with it??????

The colour was named after the fruit, before that it was called tawny. I know this doesn't answer your philosophical question but I thought it was quite interesting.

No word has been created to rhyme with orange...it's that simple.  Oranges are orange for the same reason that limes are lime colored.  The name for the object becomes a color.
