Why are parents sometimes so mean when picking a name?

Question

Would you do this to your child?

Way back in 6th grade seems like forever ago I knew a guy

First name: Pleasent

Middle name Lee

Last name was Strange

How could you hate your child this much?

When you have a surname like Strange you have to develop a sense of humor about it.  I don't think they did the kid any serious harm.  He can go by his reasonably normal middle name.  His full name will probably be a big hit in bars and other places where a good conversation starter is always in demand.

I don't think they hated their child; I just think that they made a very unwise choice in the name selection process.

Robert Lee Farmer (as in every first born male in my family since the time of Robert E. Lee)- it makes the family look bad, and just sounds flat stupid.

Wow, that's terrible!

I know a little girl named Heaven Lee (whole first name).

Some people try waaay too hard to be 'different', and just end up sounding stupid. I mean I'm all for uncommon names, but at least give your child a name that has an actual meaning and isn't a phrase!

I think some parents don't think when choosing a name. I don't know if they hate their child, it was probably just an attempt at being creative gone wrong.
